I grew up on a small farm in Northern Illinois in the US. Every summer, my entire family would gather at my grandmother’s farm. We would spend our summer ‘’walking the fields’’. Yep, each and every morning we woke up at 5am to take care of the crops. Starting this early was the only way to avoid the stinging heat of the sun.
Often it was tough labor, but we all enjoyed doing it together because we felt like a community. There was a sense of belonging there.
It’s fundamental for a productive farm that everyone knows their role, communicates together effectively, and is connected with each other, working as a team.
Along with working together as a team, team spirit is also very important. Every person involved needs to feel valued in order to use their full potential.
